Thought I'd open this with the above picture, which is a small glimpse of one of the panels from Volume 2. Progress is going steady right now and I think that there's a lot to look forward to. I'll leave it up to your imagination for what's happening in the panel ^_^ But right now it's time for another Crow Sketch!! This week's Crow sketch is based on the new mayor. At the end of volume 1 the main cast are on their way to a new District. Volume 2 will have our protagonists roaming around this new and foreign District and they will discover that there are major differences from how the Orange District is run. This time I didn't have a clear image in my head like with Lushiyana, so a lot more design work was involved with trying to figure out how this new Mayor will look. If you are stuck when trying to find out a face for your character, it's sometimes easiest to work off of basic shapes. In the example above, I tried a few faces based off of a triangle shape. Here are a few more examples of some sketches I used while trying to figure out what sort of look i wanted for the Mayor. Remember that even when you are working off of the same shape, you can move the eyes and nose on the face slightly higher or lower to create a whole new look. When you are working on an animated character, it is okay to bend the rules a little bit on the position of facial features to add more personality to a character. After playing around for a bit I came across this face. Instantly, I had a winner. A Mayor who looks like he has attitude and money to throw around. I decided next that I wanted him to stand out from the other characters. Making him short was one way. As of right now there aren't a lot of short characters in the story. But is there something else I can do? Something to make people respect and fear him when they see him aside from the fact that he's the Mayor? That's when I thought about having him ride in a giant skull mechanical legs sticking out from it. This guy doesn't just walk around his district with pride and authority. This guy rides around in the skull of a giant Wilderness beast that he killed back when he was in his prime. Like a boss. And this is the near final design for the new Mayor. He has his own feel and differs greatly from Mayor Batsgrave (Natalie's father). This great difference in feel and look is a hint at the major difference that you will see between the Districts in Volume 1 and Volume 2 of Orange Crows. I hope you enjoyed this edition of Crow Sketch!
And last but not least, a lot of you have shown interest in purchasing an Orange Crows t-shirt. I'm going to have information on them in the next week or two. Please look forward to it! And and always thank you so much for your support!
